Description:
DSV – Global Transport and Logistics, a worldwide leader in the transport and logistics industry, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Customs Specialist (Release Agent) to join their team in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in managing customs clearance operations for shipments entering Canada, ensuring compliance with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) regulations. Customs and Shipment Management:
Coordinate the setup and release of shipments imported into Canada across multiple transport modes.
Track, trace, and monitor incoming shipments to ensure timely clearance and delivery.
Process courier shipments efficiently while adhering to departmental policies.
Ensure compliance with CBSA regulations and DSV’s internal Standard Operating Procedures.
Identify shipments or tasks requiring special handling and recommend improvements to streamline processes.
Participate in weekly team meetings and contribute insights to enhance operational performance.
Quality, Health & Safety:
Support the organization’s ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certification objectives by following established safety and environmental guidelines.
Perform duties responsibly to uphold DSV’s commitment to sustainability, workplace safety, and environmental stewardship.
Promote a culture of health, safety, and continuous improvement throughout daily operations.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent qualification required.
Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation preferred.
Post-secondary education or background in logistics, supply chain, or transportation considered an asset.
Technical and Professional Competencies:
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; additional languages are an asset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to work with customs and logistics software tools.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
Strong customer service orientation with the ability to manage client relationships and resolve issues effectively.
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
A collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within diverse teams.
Physical and Work Requirements:
Ability to remain seated or standing at a workstation for extended periods.
Standard working hours apply, though flexibility may be required to meet business demands.
