Description:

The Calgary Police Service (CPS), under the City of Calgary, is seeking Strategic Analysts to join its Corporate Data & Analytics Unit. This is a high-impact role designed for experienced analysts who are passionate about public service and data-driven strategy in law enforcement. The Strategic Analyst will play a vital role in supporting strategic, tactical, and operational planning across the CPS, Calgary Police Commission, various government agencies, and Statistics Canada.

The position demands expertise in analyzing crime trends, evaluating operational patterns, and conducting socio-demographic and spatial studies to support informed decision-making. The role directly contributes to enhancing crime prevention efforts, resource planning, and organizational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and data analysis on crime, disorder, and justice system issues

  • Evaluate historical and current crime patterns; develop predictive models to aid resource deployment

  • Support strategic planning, problem-solving, and crime reduction strategies

  • Lead corporate reporting initiatives and statistical compliance processes

  • Use socio-demographic and GIS tools to assess patterns in crime and calls for service

  • Design and execute studies, including methodology design, data sourcing, analysis, and presentation of findings

  • Provide data-backed recommendations to assist decision-makers within CPS and partner agencies


Required Skills & Tools:

  • Proficiency in:

    • Microsoft Excel

    • SQL, DAX, Python

    • Business Intelligence tools

    • GIS platforms (ArcGIS)

  • Experience with large, complex datasets and inferential statistics

  • Familiarity with:

    • Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)

    • Niche RMS

    • Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) (preferred but not mandatory)

  • Strong analytical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills

  • Ability to handle sensitive and graphic information with professionalism


Working Conditions:

  • 35-hour work week (5 days per week, 1 day off in every 3-week cycle)

  • Exposure to sensitive and potentially graphic content

  • Location: 5111 47 Street N.E., Calgary, AB
