The University of British Columbia (UBC) Faculty of Medicine is seeking a Research Associate to join the MacVicar Laboratory in the Department of Psychiatry. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the development of therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s and related dementias. The successful candidate will lead preclinical development projects, perform rigorous in vivo testing, and supervise junior lab members, playing a key role in advancing UBC’s mission to improve health through innovative science.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead research programs focused on novel therapeutic development for Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

  • Design, execute, and oversee advanced projects utilizing rodent models of neurodegeneration.

  • Act as in-house expert for precision delivery techniques (e.g., LNP-mRNA) via intracranial stereotactic surgery.

  • Independently conduct molecular and genomic analysis of human and rodent brain tissue.

  • Supervise and mentor junior researchers, postdocs, technicians, and students.

  • Contribute to scientific publications, grant applications, and collaborative projects.

  • Ensure rigorous data quality, statistical analysis, and milestone delivery.

Requirements:

  • PhD or MD in a related discipline.

  • Minimum 3 years of postdoctoral research experience with demonstrated leadership.

  • Expertise in stereotaxic surgery and in vivo models of neurodegenerative disease.

  • Strong technical expertise in molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, and -omics profiling.

  • Proven ability to supervise teams and manage multi-faceted projects.

  • Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and research contributions.

Contract Details:

  • Full-time, Faculty Non-Bargaining position.

  • Start Date: November 10, 2025 (or as mutually agreed).

  • End Date: November 9, 2026.
