Description:

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU), one of British Columbia’s Top Employers, is currently seeking a Plumbing Instructor (Competition ID: 4300) to join its Faculty of Trades and Technology. This role is a Non-Regular Type 1 Faculty Contract designed to deliver short-term instruction for Apprenticeship Levels 1–4 and Plumbing Foundation Level courses, with assignments ranging from single-day workshops to several weeks of instruction. The position may lead to a more regularized faculty appointment.

As a Plumbing Instructor, you will play a vital role in preparing students for employment as pipefitters, steamfitters, sprinkler installers, gasfitters, or plumbing apprentices. You will guide students in developing strong safety practices, time and material management skills, and effective use of both hand and power tools. Instruction emphasizes hands-on shop projects, focusing on installation, repair, and maintenance of piping systems, fixtures, and other critical equipment for water, steam, fuel, and chemical distribution, as well as wastewater systems in residential, commercial, and industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality instruction for Plumbing Apprenticeship Levels 1–4 and Plumbing Foundation courses.

  • Provide students with practical training in shop settings to enhance technical competencies.

  • Teach safety protocols, tool usage, installation, maintenance, and repair techniques.

  • Prepare and present lesson plans, demonstrations, and assessments in alignment with program outcomes.

  • Participate in program and faculty meetings, ensuring curriculum delivery meets institutional standards.

  • Evaluate and support students through both theoretical and practical assessments.

  • Uphold KPU’s collective agreement standards and contribute positively to the learning environment.

  • Actively support student success by creating an inclusive and engaging classroom experience.

Qualifications:

  • BC Certificate of Qualification (CofQ) with Interprovincial Red Seal Endorsement (IP RSE) OR equivalent Red Seal certification from another Canadian jurisdiction.

  • Current BC Gasfitter Class B CofQ with IP RSE OR equivalent Gasfitter certificate from another Canadian jurisdiction.

  • Cross Connection Testing Certificate from BC Water & Waste Association (BCWWA).

  • Significant field experience in plumbing and related trades.

  • Prior instructional or training experience preferred.

  • Commitment to safety, professional standards, and student success.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful candidates will be required to present a demonstration lesson and undergo a practical skills assessment.

  • Must undergo a Criminal Record Check prior to final hiring.
