The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS), invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Family Medicine at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, specializing in Research and Clinical Trials. This role is part of the Alberta Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP) and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

The Department of Family Medicine is recognized nationally and internationally for its innovation, high-quality research, and contributions to family medicine education and clinical practice. The department is home to the Pragmatic Trials Collaborative, a national primary care trials network, and recently completed Canada’s largest-ever primary care trial (BedMed), published in JAMA.

The successful candidate will play a central role in designing, leading, and contributing to pragmatic clinical trials that address key primary care challenges, leveraging strong collaborations with physicians and Alberta Health Services’ electronic health data infrastructure. The position consists of approximately 40% clinical workplace-based teaching and 60% academic responsibilities, including research (40%), teaching (10%), and administration (10%).

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading and contributing to research initiatives aligned with departmental priorities in primary care and family medicine.

  • Developing and maintaining an independent research program, including securing external funding.

  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to design, implement, and evaluate innovative clinical research projects.

  • Disseminating findings through peer-reviewed publications, conferences, and community engagement.

  • Mentoring students, residents, and research trainees.

  • Contributing to departmental governance, committees, peer review, and academic service.

Qualifications:

  • MD (or equivalent) with board certification in Family Medicine.

  • Certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).

  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

  • Assets include: research or analysis experience in clinical trials, skills in data analysis/clinical informatics/population health, demonstrated applied research scholarship, and strong leadership and collaboration abilities. Graduate-level training in a relevant field is also considered an advantage.

Compensation & Benefits:
Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, supported through AMHSP, and start-up funding is available. The position also comes with a comprehensive benefits package in line with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement.
