Building Operator

Description:

BGO Properties is seeking a Building Operator for their Waterloo, ON location. This is a full-time, on-site role reporting to the Operations Supervisor. The Building Operator is responsible for maintaining assigned commercial buildings in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner while ensuring operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform preventative maintenance and unscheduled repairs using hand and power tools.

• Carry out plumbing repairs, light fixture replacements, electrical receptacle/switch changes, minor flooring repairs, door hardware adjustments, and roofing inspections.

• Conduct life safety systems inspections and assist with waste, recycling, and hazardous materials management.

• Maintain cleanliness of mechanical rooms, equipment spaces, and the maintenance shop.

• Support and liaise with external contractors and coordinate necessary supplies for building maintenance.

• Respond promptly to tenant service requests and participate in health and safety programs.

• Contribute to community events and sustainability initiatives.

Sustainability Responsibilities:

• Promote and support BGO’s environmental and social responsibility culture.

• Continuously look for opportunities to improve energy consumption.

• Manage and respond quickly to environmental hazards.

• Consider sustainability when selecting or replacing building equipment.

Key Qualifications:

• Basic carpentry/plumbing skills with a strong mechanical aptitude.

• Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in building operations.

• Valid driver’s license.

• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

• Ability to manage time effectively, handle pressure, and meet tight deadlines.

• Must be physically capable of performing moderate exertion and responding to emergencies.

• Excellent organizational and documentation abilities.

• Sound decision-making skills using logic and reasoning.

• Police clearance (criminal background verification) is required.

Working Conditions:

• Standard hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

• Occasional requirement to address after-hours emergencies or operate in inclement weather.
