Description:
McEwen Consulting Engineers is actively seeking a licensed Intermediate or Senior Structural Engineer (P.Eng.) to join its structural and forensic engineering team in Mississauga, Ontario. This is a full-time position ideal for a motivated individual with at least five years of experience in the civil or structural engineering field, and offers the opportunity to contribute to investigations, design projects, and rehabilitation efforts across Ontario.
This role supports a range of responsibilities from structural analysis and design to site evaluation and emergency stabilization directions for repair projects. The successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Forensics and Structural Design and play a key role in enhancing the company’s capabilities in the structural assessment and remediation space.
Conduct detailed site evaluations and inspections of structural damage or deficiencies
Prepare and seal technical reports and design documents for submission to clients and regulatory authorities
Provide structural design services, including emergency stabilization directions and building permit designs
Perform frame analysis, structural component assessments, and computer-based structural modeling
Oversee aspects of construction and project management, ensuring cost control and budget adherence
Interface and coordinate with building officials, contractors, and field teams
Complete all necessary site-specific health and safety training (provided by the company)
Engage in extensive travel across Ontario, including on-call responses and occasional overnight stays
Ensure security clearance requirements are met, including potential criminal background checks
Ideal applicants will possess:
A current license to practice as a P.Eng. with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (advanced degrees in structural analysis are a plus)
Proficiency in SAP2000 or similar structural analysis software
Minimum 5 years of practical experience in structural engineering and knowledge of Ontario construction laws and regulations
Specific experience in the repair and renovation of older commercial and residential buildings
In-depth understanding of the Ontario Building Code, especially Parts 3, 4, and 11
Familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and safety requirements in construction environments
Strong technical writing skills, oral communication, and project leadership ability
Fluency in English is required; French language skills are considered an asset
A valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle is mandatory
