Technician

Description:

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician to operate, maintain, and repair commercial diesel and alternative fuel trucks, as well as heavy equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operations in Chetwynd, BC. This role offers opportunities for growth and mentorship within a supportive team environment.

Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and repair complex CNG and diesel engines, and advanced electrical and hydraulic systems.

• Perform preventive maintenance tasks, safety inspections, and repairs.

• Maintain records of repairs, parts usage, and repair times.

• Plan, schedule, and review work as required.

• Mentor and train apprentice technicians.

• Operate tools, equipment, and machinery safely.

• Ensure shop equipment and tools are safe and maintain a clean work area.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Minimum 3rd-year Apprenticeship designation or higher.

• Valid Driver’s License.

• Own tools and willingness to acquire additional tools as required.

• Red Seal certification preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to perform CVI inspections and understand transportation regulations.

• Knowledge of tools for maintaining and repairing commercial vehicles and heavy equipment.

• Ability to follow technical manuals, maintenance guidelines, and schedules.

• Experience with diagnostic software preferred; computer literacy required.

• Effective communication with colleagues, customers, and vendors.

• Ability to work independently and in a team.

• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Working Conditions:

• Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat.

• Physical demands include walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, grasping, and pushing/pulling.

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds.

• Use of personal protective equipment (hearing protection, safety boots, gloves, reflective vest, hard hat, etc.) required.
