Description:
Yukon Energy Corporation, the primary generator and transmitter of electricity in Yukon, is seeking a highly skilled and dependable System Operator I to join their System Control Centre in Whitehorse, one of Canada’s most breathtaking and remote locations. In this role, you will serve as the Operator in Charge, responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all transmission, distribution, and generation systems.
Key responsibilities include monitoring and managing the power grid, forecasting system requirements, ensuring adequate reserves, adjusting generation and transmission levels as needed, and responding swiftly to disturbances and outages. You will act as the main contact for switching procedures and the issuance of work protection permits on Yukon Energy assets.
The ideal candidate will hold a power engineering certification or be a journey-level electrical/mechanical/power line technician with several years of related experience. You must possess strong problem-solving and analytical skills, a client-service mindset, and proficiency in Windows-based applications. A valid Class 5 driver’s license, First Aid certification, and the ability to work collaboratively in a culturally diverse environment are required.
