System Control Centre Operator

Description:

Yukon Energy Corporation, the main generator and transmitter of electrical energy in the territory, is seeking an experienced SCC Operator 1 (System Operator I) to join its System Control Centre team in Whitehorse, Yukon. This role offers the unique opportunity to work in one of Canada’s most scenic and remote regions, while playing a key part in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Yukon Energy’s power grids.

As the designated Operator in Charge, you will be responsible for operating and managing transmission, distribution, and generation systems, forecasting system requirements, and responding to disturbances and outages. You will also act as the main point of contact for switching procedures and work protection permits on Yukon Energy assets.

Key responsibilities include:

• Operating and managing power grids to ensure consistent performance.

• Monitoring and adjusting generation and transmission as required.

• Forecasting system requirements to maintain adequate reserves.

• Responding to disturbances and outages efficiently to restore service.

• Coordinating switching procedures and issuing work protection permits.

Qualifications:

• Power engineering certification or journeyman electrician/mechanic/power line technician.

• Several years of relevant operational experience.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

• Good interpersonal and client service skills.

• Knowledge of Windows-based software.

• Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

• Valid first aid certificate.

• Ability to work effectively in a team and within a diverse cultural environment.
