Description:

The Government of Yukon’s Energy, Mines and Resources (EMR) department is seeking a Land and Resource Planner to join its Land Planning Branch. This branch works collaboratively with First Nations, Yukon communities, and other government bodies to ensure sustainable, orderly land use planning across the territory.

As a Land and Resource Planner, you will take a leading role in coordinating regional and community land use planning and zoning initiatives. This includes working closely with First Nations and communities to prepare, present, and implement land use plans, zoning bylaws, and related agreements. You will lead public consultations and conduct detailed policy and planning research addressing complex land use and resource challenges.

The position requires preparing recommendations and options for senior management and liaising with other government branches to align land use planning with the Government of Yukon’s priorities. Additionally, you will contribute to developing and maintaining legislative, regulatory, and policy frameworks governing land use and orderly development in Yukon.


Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree in land use, community planning, environmental planning, geography, or a related planning field

  • Proven experience managing land planning projects of similar scope and complexity (local or regional plans)

  • Experience leading public consultations and working with the public, municipalities, and communities

  • Knowledge and application of Canadian planning and zoning law

  • Experience collaborating with First Nation governments on Final Agreements and Self-Government Agreements is an asset

  • Experience preparing briefings for senior leadership is an asset

  • Candidates with post-secondary education plus significant relevant experience may also be considered

  • Conditions of Employment: Valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s license required

  • Job Requirements: Willingness to travel as needed

  • Professional Eligibility: Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners preferred

  • Eligibility List Duration: 12 months
