Radio-Canada, part of CBC/Radio-Canada, Canada’s national public broadcaster, is seeking a Senior Writer for About That with Andrew Chang — a dynamic news explainer program that delivers fact-driven, visually compelling content. This one-year full-time on-site position in Toronto offers an opportunity to join a high-performing, creative newsroom producing journalism that connects with audiences across the country.
The successful candidate will be a skilled journalist and exceptional writer, with the ability to unpack complex stories into clear, engaging narratives. The Senior Writer will play a pivotal role in developing compelling explainers on domestic and international issues ranging from the economy and politics to global events and natural disasters. This role requires strong analytical and storytelling skills, a keen understanding of CBC’s journalistic standards, and the ability to adapt quickly to a fast-paced news environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Research, pitch, and produce story ideas aligned with About That’s editorial vision and CBC’s journalistic integrity.
Conduct detailed research and provide in-depth analysis to enhance audience understanding.
Write compelling scripts and content that accurately reflect the host’s voice and resonate with viewers.
Collaborate with producers, editors, and the host to structure and deliver engaging, visually-driven explainers.
Perform fact-checking and ensure all stories meet CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
Participate in editorial screenings, evaluations, and content planning.
Manage multiple deadlines and adapt to changing news priorities and story angles.
Promote diversity and inclusion through balanced and representative storytelling.
Skills and Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience in journalism, preferably in investigative or feature storytelling.
Proven ability to write, research, and produce high-quality news content across multiple platforms.
Excellent command of English, both written and verbal.
Strong editorial judgment and critical thinking skills.
Creativity and innovation in visual storytelling and digital production.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond quickly to evolving news cycles.
Demonstrated cultural awareness and commitment to inclusive reporting.
Excellent organization, communication, and collaboration skills.
Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime when required.
