Political Reporter

POLICORNER is expanding its acclaimed Queen’s Park political newsletter with a new, subscription-based publication covering Peel Region—specifically Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon. We’re looking for a politically astute Reporter to lead the coverage of local and regional politics, with a sharp focus on breaking news, developing key sources, and delivering original reporting that informs and influences the region’s most engaged political readers.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a start-up environment, is highly driven to scoop the competition, and possesses deep understanding of municipal government structures and dynamics.

Key Responsibilities:

• Write, curate, and publish the Peel Region newsletter three times per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 7 a.m.)

• Attend and cover city council, committee, school board, and regional governance meetings

• Report on the actions and profiles of mayors, councillors, city staff, and other key stakeholders

• Break exclusive stories and offer in-depth analysis on policies and political movements

• Engage in multimedia platforms as needed to enhance coverage and visibility

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Political Science, or a related field

• At least 1 year of experience in a newsroom (preferred)

• Demonstrated ability to break news, build source networks, and write engaging political content

• Strong understanding of Peel Region politics, including Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon

• Familiarity with municipal systems and their interplay with provincial government

• A lively, intelligent, and reader-friendly writing style

• Confidence in working independently in a fast-paced digital-first newsroom

Compensation Structure:

• This is a contract-based position—not a salaried role

• Compensation is revenue-share based, tied to subscription performance and commensurate with experience

• Subscriptions are priced at $25/month or $250/year

• You’ll be compensated as a partner, not just an employee, with the potential for greater equity as the publication grows
