The opportunity:

The Research Coordinator is integrated in all research conducted within the Stein Laboratory, possessing a working knowledge of all projects on an administrative level and as a subject matter expert for the CIHR Team grant (A collaborative path to syphilis vaccine development: Bridging biomedical research with community partnerships). The incumbent will facilitate comprehensive coordination of projects and collaborations in order to develop and maintain workflows, qualitative ethics study protocols, grants, as well as ensuring that the strategic priorities and long-term goals of various programs are met. The Research Coordinator will liaise directly with study collaborators to facilitate various project goals, budget and laboratory management in conjunction with the principal investigator. The Research coordinator must possess excellent organization and operation skills, along with leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.

The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

  • Master's degree in a related study area.
  • or
  • Bachelor's degree or completion of a Community College course in a related discipline with three years = directly related experience.
  • At least 3 years' progressive experience in research operations, management and logistics.
  • Knowledge of, or exposure to, the University of Manitoba and its administrative structure is preferred.
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary setting preferred.
  • Experience working with local, national and international collaborators.
  • Must have experience managing programs with specific deadlines.
  • Experience supervising staff/trainees or administrative staff to accomplish time-sensitive goals is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in laboratory operation, equipment, and procedures (i.e. molecular, diagnostic, and microbiological techniques).
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Ability to communicate with others to present to large groups is required.
  • Ability to schedule and run meetings is required.
  • Ability to make sound independent judgements and utilize problem-solving abilities is required.
  • Ability to perform efficiently under pressure because of deadlines and multiple priorities is required.
  • Ability to handle multiple and simultaneous complex tasks and projects is required.
  • Ability to deal with all levels of staff if required.
  • A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
  • An understanding of the research systems, particularly CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC, and Research Manitoba applications and reporting procedures is an asset.
  • Knowledge of University of Manitoba policies and procedures as they related to research funds is an asset.
