Role Overview:

The Reporter-Editor will join the Ici Toronto news team to create impactful and engaging news stories for digital, radio, and television platforms. This role requires a proactive, ambitious journalist with strong critical thinking and editorial judgment, passionate about local news, current affairs, and enterprise journalism. The candidate will produce stories that reflect diverse perspectives and build community connections.

Key Responsibilities:

• Pitch, research, write, and produce original news stories across digital, radio, and TV platforms.

• Develop exclusive and enterprise-driven content that informs and engages audiences.

• Analyze and distill complex information quickly under tight deadlines.

• Build and maintain a network of sources and contacts to support reporting.

• Collaborate with newsroom colleagues to plan coverage, coordinate reporting efforts, and develop news content.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• University degree in journalism or related field.

• Minimum 3 years recent, relevant experience in a multiplatform newsroom environment.

• Strong knowledge of Southern Ontario and provincial issues.

• Excellent general awareness of current events and understanding of the broadcasting sector.

• Ability to identify, pitch, and execute solid and original story ideas.

• Strong editorial judgment, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

• Ability to organize and prioritize work, meeting tight deadlines under pressure.

• Skilled at communicating complex information clearly to the public.

• Commitment to diversity and inclusion in workplace and content.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and team collaboration.

• Initiative, resourcefulness, and ability to work both collaboratively and remotely.

• Bilingual in French and English (required).

• Valid driver’s license and insurance-compliant driving record.

• Willingness to work various shifts including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

• Familiarity with Radio-Canada production software is an asset.
