Mortgage Underwriter

Description:

The Excalibur department at First National offers mortgage solutions to clients who may not meet traditional credit requirements but still want to own a home. The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for assessing, approving, or declining mortgage applications in line with company policies, underwriting commitments, and verifying supporting documentation from mortgage brokers.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze mortgage applications, including employment profile, credit strength, and property details.

• Render approval/decline decisions consistent with internal policies.

• Negotiate loan terms to satisfy brokers, clients, and First National.

• Prioritize applications to minimize turnaround times.

• Underwrite mortgage commitments using Merlin underwriting system.

• Select and track conditions to be satisfied before funding.

• Maintain accurate records and update systems accordingly.

Required Qualifications

• Post-secondary education or equivalent work experience.

• 2 years mortgage underwriting experience (mandatory).

• Proficiency in MS Office and ability to learn new systems.

• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks.

• High accuracy and attention to detail.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

• Strong problem-solving skills with challenging customer situations.
