The Mechanical Designer will play a key role in the engineering team by contributing to the design, drafting, and planning of detailed mechanical systems. This includes working on fuel trains, hydronic systems, vessels, and clean-in-place skids. The role also requires creating detailed mechanical design packages, shop spool drawings, isometrics, bills of materials (BOMs), and assembly layouts. A strong focus will be on preparing piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), designing skid steel structures, and developing fabrication shop drawings.
The designer will also support engineering with design calculations, specifications for major equipment like boilers and auxiliary systems, and the preparation of sketches and specifications for material purchases. Close collaboration with Project Managers and Engineers will be needed to address issues, implement changes, and ensure projects are completed within scope, time, and budget. Maintaining accurate design libraries is also a key responsibility.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
At least 5 years’ experience in piping/mechanical design, preferably in combustion or food & beverage sectors.
Strong knowledge of ASME B31.1 and B31.3 piping codes and standards.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and familiarity with Plant 3D (an asset).
Expertise in drafting and modeling techniques, mechanical design principles, and piping specifications.
Ability to prepare complex schematic drawings from rough sketches or data.
Strong understanding of piping material specifications, flexibility principles, and supports.
Excellent time management and ability to meet tight deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and strong communication skills.
