Description:
As a Material Handler at BASF, you help ensure the safe and efficient movement of bulk goods—both solid and liquid—by rail and truck. You support the Cornwall, Ontario site’s operations, contributing to the receiving, shipment, and storage of materials, while maintaining high standards in safety, environmental stewardship, and teamwork. Your work environment is dynamic, requiring adaptability to physical tasks and collaboration with both internal teams and external partners.
During your 12-hour rotating shift as a Material Handler you will…
- Operate lift trucks to unload dry goods and move portable equipment throughout the warehouse.
- Load and unload bulk liquid tankers, using truck scales, pumps, and metering equipment, while inspecting tankers for quality and safety.
- Complete shipping documentation, including scale tickets, inspection reports, and loading cards to ensure accurate records.
- Maintain proper storage in warehouse areas by segregating materials, conducting inventory counts, and keeping the workspace organized.
- Manage storage tanks by controlling temperatures and moving products using nitrogen and steam lines.
- Load and unload bulk liquid railcars, inspect equipment, connect hoses and fittings, and transfer liquids safely.
- Meet all BASF environmental, health, and safety requirements, and promote safe work practices among your colleagues.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as installing or removing spades and gaskets, changing light bulbs, and assembling fittings for equipment connections.
- Participate in monthly safety reviews and meetings with your supervisor to support a culture of safety.
If you...
- Hold a minimum of Grade 12 education and one year of post-secondary technical training.
- Work effectively in a small, select group.
- Bring previous experience in the chemical industry (preferred).
- Demonstrate knowledge of operating pumps, steam systems, nitrogen purging, mechanical assembly, and propane lift trucks
- Are comfortable with frequent physical activity, including climbing, lifting, and working outdoors.
- Are committed to wearing personal protective equipment and maintaining a safe workplace.
