The PIC Internship program is focused on educating about the organization by focusing on daily routines and procedures. This role assists Production Technicians and Laboratory Technicians in routine animal care, laboratory compliance and general farm tasks to ensure the well-being of the animals and customer products.

You Will
- Work as a team player by accomplishing daily department work requirements and farm goals
- Daily animal husbandry tasks, including but not limited to:
- Handling of boars and sire lines;
- Collecting semen from boars;
- Handling semen and preparing for laboratory transportation;
- Taking temperatures of the boars and identifying those that are off feed, sick, etc.;
- Preparation of insemination, including semen handling and task recordings;
- Heat detections in sows and gilts;
- Inseminating sows and gilts;
- Working with weaned sows and gilts in all capacities;
- Preparing for ear tag replacements writing up breeding notes;
- Farrowing tasks (birthing active rooms, detecting signs of labor, crate cleanliness);
- Days 1 - 3 piglet processing;
- Castrations, ear tagging's and tail dockings;
- Weaning tasks (pre-wean vaccinations, wean movement preparation);
- Nursing of sows;
- Wean to finish pig placement;
- Pig care;
- Feed management;
- Health and medication;
- Environment, water management and ventilation;
- Off testing, on testing and fit testing finisher pigs; and
- Maintenance of production information and records
- Assist with maintaining the barn environment
- Adhere to the Company's animal care policies and procedures including:
- Providing a physical environment that meets the animal's needs;
- Providing access to adequate water and high-quality feed;
- Providing humane treatment of the animals;
- Providing identification and appropriate treatment of animals in need of health care; and
- Following the guidelines for euthanasia
- Abide by all company policies, procedures and guidelines as directed by farm leadership, including but not limited to:
- The Company's Safety Program, understanding all safety requirements of the job and performing the job in compliance with those safety requirements;
- The Company's bio-security protocols; and
- All environmental laws and procedures as well as report all environmental issues immediately to supervisor
