Drafting Manager

GRAM Engineering is looking to add a Senior Draftsperson for role of Drafting Manager to our team! The ideal candidate would have comprehensive knowledge of CAD software and strong initiative to kick-start our drafting department.

 

GRAM Engineering is a small geostructural engineering firm specializing the design of shoring walls and foundations for a variety of projects including residential, commercial, and infrastructure (bridges, culverts, utilities, etc.) applications. We also provide field review, testing, and monitoring for our projects along with risk management and construction administration services. Position Summary:

You would be our first full-time draftsperson. Working in conjunction with our engineering team, you would be responsible for the preparation of 2D (potential for 3D) geostructural designs as well as developing company drafting standards, implementing automation tools to improve efficiency, and coordinating/providing drafting team education.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and modify 2D (and potential 3D) drawings in AutoCAD for geostructural engineering applications;
  • Review and translate engineering drawings from other disciplines for drafting purposes including identification and resolving of conflicts;
  • Communicate with engineering team effectively to ensure designs are shown correctly, conflicts are understood/resolved, and timelines are met;
  • Develop and implement drafting standards to be applied across the company;
  • Ensure drafting standards are consistent across all projects;
  • Develop automation tools to improve drafting efficiency;
  • Manage technical library of drafting software and standards;
  • Support engineering and drafting teams throughout the permit, tender, and construction process including to understand permitting requirements for different municipalities and ensure standards are being followed;
  • Evaluate and implement new drafting software or processes as required; and
  • Lead drafting education initiatives including internal and external education sessions and provide technical guidance and mentorship to other drafters.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Diploma or degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Engineering, or related fields with a minimum of 5 years experience in drafting;
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software, specifically AutoCAD. All others are assets (Revit, Civil 3D, etc.);
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite;
  • Experience with GIS an asset;
  • Experience creating 2D AutoCAD drawings for engineering purposes including plans, sections, elevations, and details;
  • Ability to understand and translate information from drawings of many disciplines (architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, topographic survey, geostructural, etc.);
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with both colleagues and clients;
  • Excellent leadership and mentoring skills;
  • Understanding of CAD automation tools;
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet required deadlines; and
  • Self-motivated and highly organized.
