Description:

The Supervisor, Woodlands Operations, will lead a critical function in sustainable forestry management at Al-Pac, overseeing a diverse team and managing daily operations. The role blends field and office work and requires strong business acumen, effective team leadership, and the ability to engage with Indigenous communities and other stakeholders. The supervisor will be integral in managing contracts for harvesting, road construction, reclamation, and maintenance while ensuring communication between Woodlands and the mill.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Promoting safety and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.

  • Coaching, mentoring, and providing feedback to the team while aligning with corporate objectives.

  • Leading and managing daily operations and addressing performance issues.

  • Reviewing and approving contracts, logging rates, and invoices.

  • Managing costs and contributing to the annual woodlands budget.

  • Supervising contracts for harvesting, road construction, and reclamation.

  • Supporting the transportation strategy to ensure timely and safe delivery of fibre.

  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, and promoting local initiatives.

  • Overseeing Quota-holder operations within the Forest Management Agreement (FMA).

Skills Required:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

  • Expertise in forestry operations, including harvesting, log hauling, and forest road construction.

  • Knowledge of Provincial Operating Ground rules and land use agreements.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strong business acumen and experience in budgeting and cost management.

  • Ability to work in rural and remote environments.

  • Proficiency in contingency planning and optimizing work processes.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • University Degree or Technical Diploma in Forestry.

  • Active Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Forest Technician (RFT).

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in the forestry operations industry.

  • 5+ years in a supervisory role managing multi-disciplinary teams.
