Vehicle And Equipment Trainer

Description:

The Region of Durham is seeking a Vehicle and Equipment Trainer to join its team at the Whitby/Oshawa depot. This role is integral to maintaining the safety and effectiveness of the Region's vehicle and equipment training programs. Reporting to the Training Officer, the successful applicant will:

• Keep accurate and confidential training records.

• Monitor the Region's Commercial Vehicle Operator Registry (CVOR) and make corrective recommendations.

• Be a recognized signing authority for Ministry of Transportation (MTO) for driver/operator testing, upgrades, and renewals.

• Monitor and manage the approved training budget.

• Research, develop, and implement comprehensive hands-on training programs for employees.

• Promote, implement, and audit safe vehicle and equipment work practices.

• Assess, evaluate, and determine outcomes of training initiatives, including vehicle refresher courses.

• Assist in accident investigations and suggest preventative action.

Qualifications:

• Education: Grade 12 diploma plus relevant specialized courses.

• Certifications: MTO Signing Authority for Driving Certification Program (DCP) for DZ and AZ licenses.

• Experience: 5 years of related experience.

• Knowledge:

  • Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration (CVOR) and related regulations.

  • Heavy and Medium vehicles and construction equipment.

  • Pre and post-trip inspections for vehicles and equipment.

  • Adult learning techniques, training, and industrial workplace education.

• Skills:

  • Strong facilitation, presentation, and education experience.

  • Effective decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, OneNote, Outlook), Workforce Scheduling Software, Adobe, and Peoplesoft.

  • Valid Class AZ license in good standing.

• Additional Assets:

  • Ministry of Transportation Fleet Drivers Trainer Certification.

  • Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Adult Education.

Salary:

• Start: $43.59 per hour

• Six Month: $46.01 per hour

• Job: $48.43 per hour

• Proof of education, qualifications, and a current Driver’s Abstract will be required before the start date.
