Power your Future with Qualus as an Engineer in Training (EIT) on our Distribution Engineering team! In this role you’ll help plan and design distribution projects that strengthen and modernize the grid . You’ll assist in developing construction packages, preparing engineering calculations, and supporting material , cost , and construction estimates. You’ll work closely with senior engineers, project teams, clie nts, and p ermitting agencies while learning utility standards, design tools, and project workflows.
This entry-level position is ideal for someone with a solid technical foundation, curiosity, and a desire to learn . You’ll be supported through structured training and hands-on experience as you grow into increasingly complex project responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Complete engineering design and d ocumentation of distribution system projects.
- Apply client, industry, and regulatory standards to project designs with guidance from Senior Engineers.
- Help prepare construction plans, permit requirements, design sketches, cost estimates, material lists , and construction support using established CSA and client standards.
- Participate in field reviews and travel to site to gather site information to support design decisions.
- Perform simple engineering checks related to constructability, loading, and basic system impacts.
- Collaborate with team members, clients, and 3 rd party stakeholders to support project progress and communication.
- Maintain organized project documentation and assist with estimating, scheduling, billing, invoicing, and quality reviews.
- Use Microsoft Office for project organization and daily communication.
- Utilize design tools and project software such as Pole Foreman, Spida -Calc, PLS-CADD, CYME, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, GIS Software ( ARC, DAD, EO, DM) , SAP, Passport , Maximo, DDS, or similar software .
- Produce accurate design packages, meeting project timelines , budgets, and expectations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering (or related engineering discipline).
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License .
- Eligible for or currently registered as an EIT with provincial engineering regulator.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, organization, and willingness to learn.
- Strong interpersonal skills (written and verbal communication between all parties)
- Ability to pick up new technical tools and project software ( i.e. Distribution Design Studio, Pole Foreman, Spida -Calc, GIS Applications, material management solutions, AutoCAD, Bluebeam ).
- Familiarity with electrical distribution systems and/ or construction concepts is a plus.
- Canadian utility experience strongly preferred (co-op or similar experience)
- Enthusiasm for structured training, mentorship, and growing technical responsibility over time.
