Description:

Seaspan ULC, one of North America’s most advanced and modern shipyards, is seeking an experienced Engineer III, Structural to join its North Vancouver operations. This role involves coordinating and executing structural engineering tasks within assigned systems design, ensuring adherence to project schedules, budgets, and quality standards. The successful candidate will play a critical role in integrating systems into ship structures and ensuring their performance through to vessel delivery.

This is a fully on-site position based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver, where you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team supporting the construction and modernization of Canada’s Coast Guard and Navy vessels, as well as commercial ships and deep-sea vessels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute allocated system designs in compliance with schedule, budget, and technical specifications.

  • Ensure seamless integration of structural systems into ships, validating all data and spatial requirements.

  • Oversee system performance from installation through testing, sell-off, and final delivery.

  • Define materials and manage configuration of the material baseline through production stages.

  • Coordinate with suppliers to review, approve, and integrate technical data to support detailed design and production.

  • Provide support to detail design, planning, supply chain, and production teams to ensure systems are complete and functional on schedule.

  • Assist with production planning and provide risk mitigation oversight during ship construction.

  • Ensure all designs meet quality and safety standards and comply with relevant specifications.

  • Follow engineering discipline standards and document all procedures and technical decisions accurately.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Naval Architecture (Master’s degree preferred).

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Incorporated Engineer with a recognized institution.

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive engineering experience, ideally in shipbuilding or maritime structural systems.

  • Strong understanding of CADMATIC, ShipConstructor, and AutoCAD software.

  • Familiarity with MRP, purchasing, and project management systems.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.

  • Ability to interpret and evaluate change requests and project designs to anticipate risks.

  • Experience working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).

Additional Information:
This position may involve access to defense-related materials regulated by the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Successful candidates must obtain and maintain security clearance through the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
