Senior Estimator

Description:

MatchBox, a leading recruitment and solutions firm headquartered in downtown Vancouver, is hiring a Senior Estimator on behalf of a well-established general contracting company specializing in ICI (Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional) construction projects in Calgary, AB. This role offers a full-time, permanent position for a seasoned professional with a proven background in estimating complex ICI construction work.

The Senior Estimator will play a crucial role in the bidding and estimation process. This includes preparing detailed project cost forecasts, analyzing tender documentation, assessing risk, and supporting the project team to ensure the successful acquisition of contracts. The ideal candidate will bring advanced knowledge of local market conditions, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to coordinate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Estimate Preparation: Lead the development of comprehensive cost estimates, including budgeting for materials, labor, subcontractors, and equipment.

• Bid Management: Interpret project specifications, drawings, and scope to produce accurate bids in collaboration with project and design teams.

• Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination: Establish and maintain competitive relationships with suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring precise and timely pricing.

• Risk Assessment: Evaluate potential cost-related risks and devise mitigation strategies.

• Project Analysis: Review tender documents and scopes to find efficiency improvements and cost-saving opportunities.

• Cost Tracking: Monitor ongoing project costs and produce regular reports comparing estimated vs. actual expenditures.

• Mentorship: Lead junior estimators, providing ongoing mentorship and professional development support.

• Client Communication: Act as a liaison between clients, engineers, architects, and internal teams to ensure clarity on bid requirements and expectations.

• Continuous Improvement: Stay informed of industry developments, technology, and trends to refine the estimation process and maintain competitiveness.

Qualifications:

• A degree or diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.

• 7–10 years of proven experience in ICI construction cost estimation.

• Proficient in estimating software such as ProEst, RSMeans, and MS Office.

• Strong understanding of Calgary’s construction market, including labor, materials, and pricing.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple bids concurrently.

• Exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional certifications such as ACI (Accredited Estimator), PMP (Project Management Professional), or equivalent.

• Local experience and knowledge of relevant building codes, zoning laws, and regulatory requirements in Calgary.
