Senior Data Engineer

Description:

Cloudbeds is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join their fully remote team in Canada. The role focuses on designing and implementing large-scale distributed data processing systems, building robust pipelines, and transforming complex data into actionable insights to power Cloudbeds’ global hospitality platform.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement scalable distributed data processing systems using technologies like Apache Hadoop, Spark, and Flink.

• Build data lakes, warehouses, and real-time streaming platforms with optimized performance and security measures.

• Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines and ensure data reliability and governance.

• Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and engineers, mentoring junior team members.

• Evaluate and implement new technologies to continuously improve Cloudbeds’ data ecosystem.

• Apply expertise in containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and streaming technologies (Kafka, Confluent).

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Deep knowledge of data architecture, distributed systems, and scalable high-performance solutions.

• Strong coding skills in Python, SQL, or Scala, with emphasis on clean, maintainable code.

• Experience with CI/CD tooling, version control, and testing best practices.

• Problem-solving mindset with full ownership of tasks from concept to production.

• Ability to work autonomously in a remote-first, globally distributed team.

• Strong collaboration, mentorship, and communication skills.

• Knowledge of Confluent, AWS, and cloud-based data platforms.

Bonus Skills (Optional):

• Leadership experience guiding junior team members and coordinating projects.

• Hospitality industry knowledge to enhance data pipeline design.

• Expertise in data architecture, storage, and performance optimization (query optimization, indexing, caching, partitioning).

• Familiarity with Java or additional programming languages.
