What will you be doing!

 Assisting the Manager and Supervisor, Health & Safety Services, in implementing the Occupational Health & Safety Program, with a focus on operational safety and industrial hygiene. 
 Supporting line managers, employees, and contractors in fulfilling their occupational safety and industrial hygiene responsibilities. 
 Providing industrial safety expertise for operational and demolition activities. 
 Developing hazard identification and mitigation techniques to support operations and work control. 
 Characterizing site hazards and maintaining regulatory hazard inventories. 
 Maintaining worker exposure inventories and supporting the Health Centre with hearing testing and medical baseline scheduling. 
 Performing exposure monitoring for occupational safety and industrial hygiene hazards as required. 
 Reviewing contractor work activities and ensuring compliance with company and government safety regulations. 
 Working with supervisors and employees to integrate safety into all site activities. 
 Identifying issues through inspections and investigations and recommending improvements to management. 
 Developing and maintaining occupational safety programs, policies, procedures, guidelines, and training materials. 
 Developing and delivering effective safety training to employees and supervisors. 
 Assisting line management with incident investigations by identifying apparent and root causes and recommending corrective actions. 
 Assuming responsibility for special projects assigned by the OHS Program Manager. 
 Acting as a delegate for the Section Head, Health & Safety Services, as required. 
 Applying risk‑management principles to assess and resolve hazardous situations. 
 Promoting a strong safety culture by modelling safe behaviours and fostering participation in the Near Miss program. 
 Attending and actively participating in Fact Finding/Rapid Learning investigations. 
 Mentoring new employees and visitors to reinforce safety expectations. 
 Maintaining instrument calibrations and supply inventories to support operations and project work. 
 Maintaining confidentiality in all matters. 
 Assisting with the development and review of safety‑related training. 
 Supporting line management with workplace monitoring, assessments, inspections, and accident investigations. 
 Delivering formal presentations to employees and managers on assessment, inspection, or investigation findings. 
 Participating in all required safety and operational training to maintain current skills and certifications. 
 Completing required Radiation Protection training and sharing learned knowledge with peers. 
 Identifying and reporting safety hazards and adhering to all PPE and safety procedures. 
 Following Workplace Safety and Health procedures and WHMIS requirements, and encouraging others to work safely. 
 Other duties as assigned by your manager. 

What We Are Looking For

 Education
 Occupational Health and Safety Professional Certificate recognized for CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation or equivalent. 
 Experience
 Seven (7) or more years of relevant safety experience in construction/demolition environments involving heavy equipment. 
 Advanced industrial hygiene knowledge in areas such as Asbestos, Silica, hazardous chemicals/WHMIS, noise, heat-stress, confined space entry, and personal protective equipment and clothing (PPE&C). 
 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
 Understanding of work-related injuries and case management. 
 Understands injury statistics and performance metrics – can develop and interpret them. 
 Proven technical document writing skills, i.e., procedures, investigations, reports. 
 Initiative and judgement to organize and maintain the flow of work and accuracy of records. 
 Ability to be exceptionally organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to meet deadlines - able to prioritize and manage work time effectively. 
 Demonstrated responsibility and accountable for accurately handling the details associated with one’s work; conscientious about accuracy. 
 Ability to adapt to a changing environment and respond with initiative. 
 Ability to improvise and to deal adequately with rapidly changing conditions. 
 Excellent interpersonal communication skills – written and oral - and proven ability to maintain successful working relations at all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders. 
 Able to provide prompt, clear and concise guidance as required that is be tactful and diplomatic to all employees, contractors and line management. 
 Able to present recommendations, complete regulatory reporting and technical writing in a clear and effective manner. 
 Able to effectively handle and diffuse difficult situations in real time with internal and external clients. 
 Understand Human Performance principles: Not just what an employee did but also why they did it(learned experience/beliefs). 
 Highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. 
 Must be punctual and dependable. 
 Able to work extended hours and off normal work shifts to support project needs. 
 Must possess a working-level knowledge of hazards presented by industrial work environments, including process systems and components, machine tools and heavy equipment. 
 A working knowledge of currently available personal protective equipment and clothing, as well as other safety-related equipment. 
 Working level knowledge of industrial safety legislation relating to general operational systems, construction and demolition environments. 
 Able and willing to develop and maintain working-level knowledge of specific federal and provincial legislation that affects occupational health and safety within CNL, including the Canada Labour Code Part II as it pertains to Health & Safety and the Manitoba Provincial Health & Safety Regulations. 
 Security Clearance Eligibility Required
 Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
