Recreation Coordinator

 

Description:

The Recreation Coordinator develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates a therapeutic recreation program of activities to meet the individual and group needs of the Personal Care Home residents and individuals waiting placement in Transitional Care (referred to as clients). The coordinator provides operational direction to Activity/Recreation Workers and Volunteers.

The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Experience
 

  • Minimum of two (2) years recent relevant experience in health care required.
  • Experience with the geriatric population.
  • Experience in charting and documentation procedures.

     

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
 

  • Recognized Therapeutic Recreation/Activity Programming certificate or equivalent relevant education required or Minimally, completion of four courses of the “Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults” program (Red River College) or equivalent is required:
    • Foundation to Therapeutic Recreation (RECF-1045).
    • Leisure Concepts (RECF-1046 TR).
    • Cognitive Impairment (RECF-1047 TR).
    • Documentation Skills (RECF-1051).
  • Safe Food Handling Course.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
