Description:
Reporting to the Director, Privacy & Information Services, the Privacy and Access Specialist is responsible for managing sensitive and complex information access requests including, eDiscovery, Restricted Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, and supporting the Privacy and Access program. He/she/they completes privacy impact assessments and provides advice on complex and sensitive information access and privacy matters. The position supports the Commission ’s responses to privacy breaches and works with the department to develop and deliver training and awareness activities to employees. The role also supports the department to develop internal policies, reports, and presentations.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The successful candidate will have the following:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Diploma in Privacy, Information Management, Legal Administration, Public Administration, or other relevant discipline
- Sound experience in managing FOI requests, including eDiscovery best practices, interpreting and applying legislation, policies, and directives, administering information access requests, managing caseloads, and working in a high-volume client service-centric environment.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience acceptable to the Employer.
- Criminal Record Check is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Sound knowledge of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, restricted FOIs, eDiscovery practices, and tools.
- Sound technical knowledge, including relevant IT Security and ability to troubleshoot.
- Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, problem-solving, and consensus-building skills.
- Ability to learn, understand the Commission’s policies, processes, and business operations, interpret legislation and acts, and apply knowledge and interpretation in decision-making.
- Ability to strategize and share expertise on eDiscovery tools and platforms.
- Ability to communicate clearly, in both spoken and written communications, and provide complex and sensitive information where there may be significant barriers to acceptance.
- Ability to analyze large amounts of information, resolve issues, and make effective decisions in a results-oriented environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, utilize diplomacy, and tact in dealing with confidential matters.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple issues and projects simultaneously.
- Ability to demonstrate patience, respect, and exercise effective negotiation skills when interacting with members of the public from diverse backgrounds.
