Principal Engineer

Description:

Synopsys Canada ULC is seeking a highly experienced and enthusiastic Principal Engineer in Analog & Mixed Signal Circuit Design to join their Solution IP group based in Markham, Ontario. The candidate will be part of a dynamic R&D team that develops cutting-edge high-speed analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits. These IPs serve critical applications like DDR/LPDDR PHY, HBM PHY, UCIe PHY, and Mobile Storage PHYs.

The engineer will play a crucial role in specifying, architecting, designing, verifying, and supporting physical layout of advanced circuit blocks. The role involves cross-functional collaboration with analog and digital design experts and makes use of a sophisticated IC design environment enhanced with both commercial and custom tools.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze JEDEC standards to develop detailed analog and mixed-signal circuit block specifications.

• Design sub-blocks achieving power, area, and performance goals while meeting ESD and reliability requirements.

• Formulate and execute design and verification plans.

• Review and guide physical layout to minimize parasitics and ensure ESD/latch-up robustness.

• Present design and simulation results for peer and customer reviews.

• Author comprehensive documentation covering design features and validation plans.

• Collaborate on electrical characterization of integrated circuits.

Job Requirements:

• Master’s degree (MSc) with 10–15+ years of analog design experience.

• Expertise in CMOS transistor-level design and FinFET technologies.

• Proven experience in one or more circuit types: receivers, drivers, serializers, deserializers, VCOs, DLLs, PLLs, bandgaps, ADCs, DACs.

• Familiarity with ESD/Latch-Up protection strategies and analysis techniques.

• Proficient in high-speed custom digital design and reliability considerations (EM, IR, aging).

• In-depth understanding of layout-sensitive effects such as matching, proximity, and stress.

• Skilled in schematic capture, layout tools, and design verification processes.

• Strong knowledge of SPICE simulators, Verilog-A modeling, and scripting languages (TCL, Perl, Python, MATLAB).

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
