Microgrid Engineer

 

Description:

Extropic Energy Inc. is advancing energy modernization through a 3D digital twin project approach, focusing on solar, EV charging infrastructure, and energy roadmaps. We are looking for a passionate Microgrid Engineer to join our team. This role will involve a wide range of responsibilities, from designing renewable energy systems and microgrids to supporting business administration, project controls, and marketing efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design of Renewable Energy Systems:

    • Design and implement microgrids that incorporate distributed energy resources such as solar, battery energy storage, and combined heat & power.

    • Conduct power system studies to assess system performance.

  • Simulation & SCADA Systems:

    • Design, implement, and operate a real-time digital simulator (RTDS) lab.

    • Program protection and control systems for microgrids.

    • Design, test, and implement SCADA systems.

    • Develop and implement Human Machine Interfaces (HMI).

  • Fieldwork and Client Interaction:

    • Perform multi-discipline field reviews at construction sites.

    • Engage directly with contractors and clients.

    • Use a 3D laser scanner for reality capture and digital twin integration.

  • Project and Administrative Duties:

    • Support various project and administrative functions as needed.

Candidate Experience & Skill Requirements:

  • Education: Master’s Degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in power systems or directly related field.

    • Experience with protection & control equipment such as Schweitzer (SEL) RTAC and recloser controllers.

    • Proficiency with power system software like EMTP-RV, ETAP, MATLAB/Simulink, PSS/E, RSCAD, or CYME.

  • Skills:

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access).

    • Strong written and oral communication skills.

    • Class 5 driver’s license.

Location:

  • Based in Kelowna, BC (1350 St Paul St) or Saskatoon, SK (2555 Grasswood Road East).

  • Some travel may be required.

Working Hours:

  • Full-time: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
