The Opportunity
Our West Country Area Operations Team is seeking a Skilled Mechanical Technician to join our team at our Rocky Mountain House, Alberta office.
The ideal candidate possesses knowledge and experience of high-pressure natural gas pipeline and gas systems, including gas turbines and centrifugal compressors. This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
The regular work schedule for this position will be:
- Week 1 - Monday to Thursday 9 hours per day; Friday off
- Week 2 - Monday to Thursday 9 hours per day; 8 hours on Friday
What You’ll Do
- Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain turbine driven engines, gas compressors, standby generator engines, oil coolers, air compressors, large-bank cooler fans and gear boxes, and other auxiliary equipment
- Assist in full or partial engine/gas compressor overhaul
- Operate compressor engines and support equipment
- Perform precision measurement and alignment functions
- Analyze engine performance reports
- Read, interpret, and update drawings and schematics
- Assist with pipeline repairs as necessary
- Plan and prepare for outages
- Plan, coordinate, and perform mechanical maintenance activities, to include routine corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, equipment and system improvements, and major maintenance projects
- Initiate corrective action to review and improve maintenance procedures.
- Demonstrate safety leadership & excellence
- Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc.
- Other tasks as required
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Relevant natural gas or energy industry experience (Energy, Natural Gas)
- Completion of a second year of trades program, or two years of vocational/technical training from a recognized institution
- Other certifications/designations as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting turbine engines, and turbines
- Knowledge of internal combustion engines, reciprocating and centrifugal gas compressors, turbines, and standby generators
- Experience interpreting technical reference documents and reading drawings
- Computerized maintenance management system
This Position Requires Candidates To:
- Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
- Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, to include drug and alcohol testing
- Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
- Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training which would involve overnight stays away from home
- Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures, heavy lifting (50 pounds), and cramped conditions
