Library Technician

 

Description:

Nipissing University invites applications for a Part-Time Library Technician to support its academic community by providing a broad range of front-line library services. This 11-month contract role (renewable yearly) is focused on ensuring a seamless and supportive library experience for students, faculty, staff, and community members at both Nipissing University and Canadore College. The technician will work on-site at the university’s library in North Bay, Ontario.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-person assistance with circulation services and access to library resources.

  • Guide users in conducting effective searches and developing research strategies.

  • Deliver library orientation sessions and possibly introductory information literacy instruction.

  • Handle general inquiries via email and telephone, manage patron registration, and assist with account issues.

  • Perform cash handling duties including collecting fines and securing funds.

  • Conduct routine library maintenance tasks such as shelving, shelf reading, opening/closing, and setting up book displays.

  • Support users with printers, photocopiers, and other library technologies.

  • Participate in internal library working groups and collaborate with colleagues and leadership, including the Manager of Archives and Access Services and the Executive Director of Library Services.


Working Hours:

  • Part-time: Up to 24 hours per week

  • Includes daytime, evening, and weekend shifts


Qualifications:

Education (one of the following):

  • Library Technician diploma (recognized program) + 1 year related library experience

  • College diploma + 2 years of directly related library experience (preferably in an academic setting)

  • Undergraduate degree + 2 years of directly related library experience (preferably academic)
