Invest Nova Scotia, the province’s business development agency, is dedicated to driving economic growth, innovation, and entrepreneurship across Nova Scotia. The agency works closely with businesses of all sizes to support expansion, sustainability, and community economic development.
As an Investment Analyst, you will be an integral member of the investment team, working under the direction of the Investment Principal. The role focuses on identifying, evaluating, and supporting early-stage deep technology companies with strong commercial potential. You will conduct detailed diligence, financial modeling, market research, and provide critical insights that shape investment decisions and portfolio growth. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to Nova Scotia’s innovation ecosystem while supporting entrepreneurs building transformative technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct financial modeling, investment analysis, and evaluation of early-stage technology companies.
Perform primary and secondary market research using databases, stakeholder interviews, and venture capital resources.
Support investment cycles from review and approval through closing of new and follow-on investments.
Participate in portfolio monitoring, tracking progress, and preparing reports.
Provide administrative and documentation support for investment processes.
Build and maintain strong networks with community partners, entrepreneurs, and venture capital stakeholders.
Represent Invest Nova Scotia at innovation and venture capital events to strengthen the organization’s profile.
Key Competencies:
Solid knowledge of entrepreneurship, venture capital, and financial analysis.
Familiarity with venture capital transactions and standard legal documents.
Ability to analyze financial statements and apply GAAP principles.
Broad knowledge of deep-technology sectors and current innovations.
Strong business development and commercialization understanding.
Exceptional research, organizational, and time management skills.
Proficiency in CRM databases, Microsoft Office, and data-tracking tools.
Strong communication, relationship-building, and presentation abilities.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, STEM, or related field required.
1–3 years of related experience; expertise in software engineering or artificial intelligence is an asset.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
