Description:
As a General Supervisor, you will lead the Land Development Planning unit, providing mentorship and strategic guidance to a team of land development professionals. You will deliver practical, actionable solutions to complex development challenges, directly impacting the lives of Edmontonians.
What will you do?
- Lead and mentor a team of land development professionals, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and excellence to achieve departmental goals
- Oversee the delivery of comprehensive planning services, including subdivisions, rezonings, and reporting, ensuring high-quality results and adherence to schedules
- Manage annual operating and capital budgets, ensuring resource allocation is fiscally responsible and directly supports corporate objectives
- Drive proactive partner engagement, developing plans and processes that effectively support project development and public communication
- Cultivate strong cross-departmental relationships to champion an integrated, collaborative business model across the City
- Prepare Council reports, presentations, speaking notes and attend Council and Committee meetings as the team’s planning subject matter expert.
- Ensure strategic alignment of all work with The City Plan, Council Priorities and Principles, and other guiding documents and policies
- Implement a robust performance measurement system, utilizing key performance indicators (KPIs) and timely corrective actions to guarantee effective service delivery
- Maintain rigorous compliance with environmental, health, and safety policies, as well as current unit procedures and guidelines
- Provide quality assurance and control, identifying industry trends and operational gaps to continuously implement best practices
- Promote collaborative problem-solving, supporting staff in developing innovative action plans and enhancing internal communication
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban or Regional Planning or a closely related discipline
- Minimum of seven (7) years of diversified and progressive leadership experience in a land development related field
