Director Of Group Disability Operations

Sun Life is seeking a transformational leader to head the operations of its Group Disability office in Calgary. This senior leadership role involves both strategic innovation and operational excellence, with the mandate to enhance disability performance, client satisfaction, and team capability. The position is ideal for a purpose-driven leader with extensive experience in disability claims management and a passion for driving innovation, digital transformation, and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead strategic transformation initiatives, integrating digital tools, automation, and data insights.

• Oversee disability operations including STD, LTD, and Salary Continuance with focus on compliance and service excellence.

• Optimize return-to-work outcomes and manage team capacity effectively.

• Strengthen client relationships and contribute to sales efforts.

• Represent Sun Life at client meetings, conferences, and industry events.

• Build a high-performing team, enhance employee retention, and develop future leaders.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (BD, IT, HR, Risk, Legal) to achieve business goals.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 10 years of leadership experience in complex, client-facing operations.

• In-depth knowledge of disability claims management and rehabilitation practices.

• Proven success in leading through change and delivering measurable business outcomes.

• Strong data analysis, strategic thinking, and operational discipline.

• Exceptional communication and problem-solving abilities.

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced credentials are an asset.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Monthly Salary: CAD 8750 – 15000 (based on annual range of CAD 105000 – 180000).
