Backend Developer

Description:

KOHO, a leading Canadian fintech company, is seeking a Backend Developer II (Platform) to join their remote team. KOHO’s mission is to provide transparent financial services that empower Canadians to save, spend smart, and build real wealth. The role is part of the Platform Team responsible for maintaining internal development frameworks, authentication/authorization systems, and supporting distributed systems architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own and maintain authentication and authorization systems, ensuring secure, scalable access control.

• Develop components for the internal library used by backend developers across services.

• Create POCs, gather system inputs, build dashboards, and make data-driven decisions to improve systems and business operations.

• Lead small to medium-sized projects, ensuring timely delivery for internal stakeholders.

• Foster cross-team collaboration and contribute to building a healthy engineering culture.

• Participate in on-call rotations supporting cross-functional services once fully integrated.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; AWS certifications are a plus.

• Hands-on experience with AI-powered development workflows and coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code).

• Strong experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures.

• Proficient in Go, Python, and SQL.

• Solution-oriented with the ability to tackle complex technical issues.

• Excellent communication skills to clearly explain technical issues.

• Ability to collaborate in a distributed team and work independently.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Experience with authentication/authorization systems (OAuth, JWT, RBAC).

• Familiarity with tools such as Datadog, Temporal, GitHub Actions, RabbitMQ.
