Sandvik Mining is seeking a Field Service Automation Technician to join their specialized field service team based out of Saskatoon, Canada, with on-site responsibilities across various Western Canadian mine sites. This role is ideal for an experienced Automation Technician passionate about high-level diagnostics, process improvement, and field-based support for cutting-edge mining automation technologies. You will play a critical part in optimizing Sandvik’s underground equipment by delivering advanced troubleshooting, remote diagnostics, software/hardware updates, and technical leadership.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced repairs and equipment inspections at customer sites

  • Execute diagnostics, system configuration, and commissioning using tools like B&R Diagnostic Manager

  • Manage updates, installations, and adjustments (e.g., flash cards, data files to PLCs, laser and GPR systems)

  • Guide clients in improving operational processes through advanced automation support

  • Deliver on-site training to equipment operators and end users

  • Lead small project teams, train junior technicians, and maintain documentation

  • Collaborate with the sales team by offering expert technical advice and identifying improvement opportunities

  • Conduct software and hardware updates, as well as real-time support for customers in dynamic environments


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • In-depth technical knowledge of automation tools, system diagnostics, and PLCs

  • Proficiency in B&R, Tele Remote, HMI, and PLC-based programming

  • Experience with underground mechanical cutting equipment and mining technologies

  • Strong command of electrical schematics, low-voltage systems, sensors, actuators, and switchboards

  • Familiarity with GPR, SEAM, and Radial Laser Systems

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with global technical teams

  • Self-motivated, resilient under pressure, and confident in customer interactions

  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel locally and internationally for training

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
