The Position reports to Manager, Community Programs
We are looking an empathic and client-centric Veteran Peer Counsellor plays a vital role in guiding and supporting Veterans in the Program. Drawing on lived experience (firsthand knowledge gained through shared experiences of clients), the Veteran Peer Counsellor offers guidance, support and resources to improve client's overall well-being. The Peer Counsellor offers guidance, support, and inspiration rooted in genuine understanding. By modeling what successful reintegration into civilian life can look like, the Peer Counsellor actively engages in facilitating group activities, one-to-one support, community engagement, and outreach efforts to increase awareness of the program. This is an in-person role with no opportunity for remotely.
What We’re Looking For:
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Human Services or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 2 years of lived experience with the Canadian Armed Forces, 3+ years preferred
- Proficient in verbal and written English at a professional level, with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- High proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, SharePoint).
- Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check Clearance at the Institute.
- Emergency First Aid certification is an asset.
- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information effectively and possess strong integrity.
