Petches Farm, a well-established and busy Thoroughbred stud farm located in the picturesque countryside of North Essex near Finchingfield, is seeking dedicated and experienced Stud Hands to join their friendly, family-run breeding operation. This is an excellent opportunity for equine professionals passionate about horse care and the breeding of high-quality Thoroughbred foals for flat racing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide daily care and handling of horses, including feeding, grooming, mucking out, and general care of mares, foals, and youngstock.

• Assist with foalings and monitor mares due to foal, ensuring their well-being at all times.

• Prepare foals for sales and mares for covering, including transportation as required.

• Maintain the stud grounds and facilities, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and safety.

• Work collaboratively within the team to ensure smooth stud operations.

Essential Skills:

• Strong physical fitness and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

• Proven ability to work at Senior Stud Hand level with high attention to detail.

• Excellent communication and time management skills, with a positive and proactive attitude.

• Flexibility to work hours aligned with the demands of a busy breeding schedule.

• A clean, current driving licence is essential.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience working with yearlings and foal preparation for sales.

• Familiarity with other farm animals, particularly cattle.

• Ability to operate agricultural machinery (tractor, trailer, etc.).
