Description:
CNH, a global leader in the agricultural and construction equipment industry, is seeking a Soil and Crop Modeling Engineer to join their innovative team in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. This role is vital in supporting CNH’s mission to sustainably advance agriculture by enhancing the productivity, efficiency, and performance of crop production equipment such as seeders, sprayers, planters, tillage equipment, and tractors.
The ideal candidate will work closely with internal product development, validation, and innovation teams to conduct high-fidelity simulations and predictive modeling that optimize product functionality, particularly in relation to soil, crops, dust, and biomass debris. This position also requires occasional field travel to gather data for simulation accuracy and validation.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams to support the design and refinement of crop production equipment and tractors.
Execute soil and crop-flow simulations using Discrete-Element Method (DEM) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
Analyze machine performance based on soil/crop/dust properties, operational conditions, and mechanical parameters.
Simulate the effects of dust and biomass debris on machinery performance and durability.
Develop engineering standards and expand the virtual simulation database of soil and crop properties through physical measurements and field data.
Create standard procedures for simulations and maintain thorough documentation of methodologies and outcomes.
Support experimental validation of models through field testing and research instrumentation.
Predict machine functionality and performance through multi-physics modeling and contribute to simulation precision enhancement.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum 2 years of industry or research experience with DEM and CFD modeling applied to agricultural equipment.
Strong understanding of plant biology, soil mechanics, and biomass properties.
Familiarity with mechanical and air-assisted crop conveyance and cleaning systems used in agricultural machinery.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Agricultural, Biochemical, or Bioresources Engineering.
Hands-on exposure to farm machinery and equipment in operational settings.
Strong problem-solving abilities and experience working on cross-functional engineering teams.
Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, Creo, or similar CAD software.
Familiarity with TeamCenter or other PLM systems.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Willingness to travel for field evaluations and testing.
