What can I expect to do in this role?
As a Senior Technical Analyst, you will provide complex technical support with respect to computer hardware and software, performance and capacity, system architecture and quality control. You will also provide guidance to junior staff and will assign and check work of others doing similar work.
In this key role you will ensure uptime of the Services IT infrastructure environment on a 24/7 basis. You will also implement and maintain the Services server and storage infrastructure environment and monitor the infrastructure to ensure it is reliable, accessible and secure.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides technical assessment of existing and new hardware and software products and makes recommendations for their use based on cost, suitability and performance requirements.
Monitors and manages equipment usage and capacity. Provides information and analyses for forecasting purposes.
Participates in system development activities providing technical input to application development teams and users. Provides technical portions of formal tenders and information proposals.
Provides complex technical support for existing hardware and software products. Assesses and recommends release levels and updates of system software and utilities, taking into account the impact on resource utilization and the support of existing products.
Develops procedures and provides input to standards relating to technical aspects of hardware and software.
Acts as a liaison with I.T.S. users and computer vendors to identify and resolve problems.
Develops, implements and documents systems and software.
Participates in the short and long term planning process related to hardware, software, and capacity planning and disaster recovery.
Works with I.T.S. and security personnel to establish and maintain technical aspects of system security.
Maintains a high level of technical knowledge of industry trends and products.
Trains and educates I.T.S. operations and technical staff, application personnel and user groups.
Performs typical duties inherent to the position.
Education/Experience
Must have a university degree in computer science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Must have a minimum of four years of recent demonstrated technical support experience in increasingly responsible positions related to this job function.
Experience and knowledge in the following areas is required:
Knowledge of Nutanix and VMware vSphere or similar enterprise virtualization technology, including experience with clustering/High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR).
Knowledge of various Azure (PaaS, IaaS) and Microsoft 365 products and technologies related to infrastructure administration, provisioning, monitoring, security and troubleshooting.
Knowledge of containers and containerization technologies/tools.
Knowledge of Converged and Hyper-Converged Platforms and Technologies.
Experience in leading, designing, coordinating, implementing and supporting many large technical projects.
Recent experience designing, building, securing, tuning, administrating and supporting Windows and Linux environment in an enterprise setting.
Experience in enterprise level monitoring and security management technologies.
Preference for extensive experience with Active Directory topology support and administration/security, Certificate Services, Windows Clustering, Multi-subnet failover, Windows NTFS/storage, Windows permissions/ACLs/auditing, Windows enterprise level server patching, Windows high-availability design and support, backup and recovery using Veeam, NetBackup.
Experience and knowledge with scripting technologies such as PowerShell, Bash, Python.
Must have knowledge of one or more technologies related to IT monitoring and security including, Microsoft SCOM, Splunk, Wireshark, CrowdStrike.
Knowledge of Automation technology such as Ansible, Terraform, Azure Bicep.
Skills/Competencies:
Must demonstrate the self-motivation to learn new technologies and their application to TPS infrastructure.
Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, pro-active in the design and management of reliable and robust production systems.
Good oral, written and presentation skills in order to effectively communicate with technical staff and end users.
Must possess a Class G Driver s Licence (and eligibility and willingness to obtain a Toronto Police Service Blue Card , which requires a good driving record and accumulation of no more than six demerit points.
