Description:
We are seeking a Senior Sub-System Design Engineer to join our Product Systems & Integration (PSI) organization, specifically within the Performance & Allocation team.
This role is well-suited for an experienced systems engineer with a strong interest in product development, system design, technical leadership, and cross-functional collaboration. You will contribute to defining, systemizing, and realizing next-generation radio products — from early technology studies through product release and lifecycle management — working alongside hardware, software, architecture, verification, product management, and project teams located globally across Canada, Sweden, and China.
What you will do:
- Lead Radio Sub-System Design activities across the complete product lifecycle
- Own and maintain Radio Sub-System requirements, design specifications, and technical documentation
- Perform product-level allocation of requirements, performance targets, and system capabilities across hardware and software subsystems
- Analyze system trade-offs and ensure end-to-end product performance objectives are achievable
- Participate in early-phase studies, pre-development activities, product concept evaluations, and technical assessments
- Support project execution through milestone reviews, technical forums, and design decision processes
- Collaborate with architecture, hardware, software, security, performance, verification, and integration teams to develop aligned technical solutions
- Drive issue resolution, technical risk management, and requirement clarification throughout development
- Support system baseline management, change control activities, and product release readiness
- Contribute to development cost and effort estimations for features and product variants
- Support hardware and software teams during implementation, integration, verification, and troubleshooting
- Provide technical leadership within cross-functional and multi-site development teams
- Champion continuous improvement of engineering processes, methods, tools, and ways of working
The skills you bring:
Required
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field
- Several years of experience in product development, systems engineering, or subsystem design
- Solid understanding of complex telecommunications or embedded systems
- Experience translating customer, business, or system requirements into technical subsystem solutions
- Experience performing requirement allocation and system decomposition across multiple technical domains
- Ability to analyze technical trade-offs involving performance, cost, complexity, quality, and delivery timelines
- Experience working within cross-functional product development organizations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions and contribute to decisions collaboratively
Preferred
- Experience with radio products, radio access networks (RAN), Massive MIMO, distributed radio systems, or wireless infrastructure
- Experience with hardware/software co-design
- Understanding of performance engineering, capacity analysis, or product optimization
- Familiarity with requirements management and systems engineering tools such as DOORS NG, JIRA, Confluence, or similar platforms
- Experience supporting design reviews, milestone governance, or product readiness activities
- Knowledge of product lifecycle processes within telecommunications product development
- Experience working in geographically distributed teams
