Description:
The Downing Street Group, a distinguished Toronto-based real estate firm with a history of excellence since 1986, is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to join their dynamic and growing team. This is a hands-on role offering significant responsibility, visibility across departments, and the opportunity to directly contribute to the financial oversight of major real estate projects from acquisition through disposition.
As a Senior Project Accountant, you’ll manage and own full-cycle project accounting for multiple real estate developments, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and play an instrumental role in strategic financial decision-making.
Manage day-to-day accounting for real estate projects including acquisitions, developments, and disposals.
Handle general ledger accounts, A/P & A/R reconciliations, and monthly/year-end closings.
Set up new projects in NEWSTAR Homebuilder accounting system and manage project closures.
Prepare financial statements and lender draw requests monthly.
Monitor and reconcile project budgets, job costs, and project variances.
Review contracts, change orders, and purchase orders for accuracy and budget alignment.
Communicate discrepancies and financial performance to project managers.
Prepare HST and relevant government remittances.
Compile year-end working papers and liaise with external auditors.
Maintain up-to-date project financials, forecasts, and variance analysis.
Contribute to internal reporting processes and compliance standards.
Minimum of 6 years’ accounting experience in construction or real estate development.
Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business; working toward CPA designation is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and mandatory experience with NEWSTAR Homebuilder.
Solid understanding of accounting principles, project cost analysis, and government filings.
Highly analytical with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to handle multiple deadlines and communicate effectively across teams.
Self-starter with initiative, discretion, and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills and professionalism in both internal and external interactions.
Highly competitive performance-based compensation (CAD 85,000–95,000 annually).
