Description:
Lloyd’s Register, a global leader in technical and professional services in the marine and offshore industries, is seeking a Surveyor or Senior Surveyor (Marine) to join their team in Montreal, Canada. This critical role involves performing inspections, assessments, and surveys of ships and marine systems, ensuring compliance with international maritime standards, and contributing to engineering solutions for complex challenges.
As a key part of the organization’s classification and compliance operations, you’ll be responsible for delivering technical assessments and services to clients while adhering to safety, legal, and quality requirements. Whether in design evaluation, construction surveys, or in-service inspections, your work will directly support the safe, sustainable, and high-performing operation of vessels.
Conduct technical surveys of ships (design, production, in-service) in compliance with LR standards and international maritime codes
Undertake inspections in shipyards, onboard vessels, and client facilities
Produce deliverables within set timeframes, budgets, and quality benchmarks
Engage with internal and external stakeholders to present findings and recommend solutions
Lead and mentor junior colleagues in technical knowledge and professional development
Monitor and assess health and safety risks, implementing appropriate controls and training
Interpret client requirements to help determine appropriate cost structures and project scopes
Ensure all survey activities align with LR’s code of ethics, procedures, and IMS policies
A degree in engineering or physical sciences from a recognized institution (minimum 2 years), or equivalent maritime qualifications with sea-going experience as a certified ship's officer
Membership in a professional institution (e.g., I.Eng or equivalent)
Progress towards or possession of Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status
Demonstrated ability to apply specialist engineering knowledge to solve complex technical problems
Proven leadership in technical and commercial contexts
Familiarity with MMS Codes (considered a strong asset)
Proficient in English; French language proficiency is an advantage
Experience in classification society activities or marine surveying is highly valued
