Mi’kmaw Family and Children’s Services of Nova Scotia (MFCS) is looking for a dedicated Senior Human Resources Generalist to join their Mainland operations team based in Dartmouth, NS. This is a permanent, full-time role reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources.
The Senior HR Generalist will play a vital role in supporting the full employee lifecycle — including recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, policy administration, and employee engagement. A key focus of this position is to help ensure a culturally safe, inclusive, and legally compliant workplace that supports Indigenous values and community needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide HR guidance to supervisors on employee relations, respectful workplace issues, and performance management challenges.
Support recruitment, orientation, and retention efforts across the Mainland region to build and sustain an engaged workforce.
Administer HR policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with employment legislation and occupational health & safety regulations in Nova Scotia.
Champion diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and wellness initiatives that foster equity, belonging, and cultural safety within the workplace.
Manage confidential employee records and generate HR reports as needed for organizational planning and strategic initiatives.
Participate in strategic HR projects and contribute to long-term organizational planning.
Candidate Requirements:
A diploma or degree in Human Resources or a related field.
3 to 5 years of relevant HR experience, ideally in Indigenous or non-profit sectors.
Strong knowledge of Nova Scotia employment law and occupational health and safety practices.
Ability to work independently and communicate with empathy and professionalism in sensitive situations.
Experience working with Indigenous communities is highly valued.
Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
