Our client, and industry leader in the manufacturing industry, is seeking a Human Resources and Safety Manager to join their team.
This hands-on, 100% in-office role is based just outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia and is ideal for someone with proven HR experience and a passion for developing and leading people-focused initiatives while maintaining safety operations and compliance.
Key Responsibilities for the Job:
Human Resources
- Manage full recruitment lifecycle: advertising, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new employees
- Maintain HR documentation and ensure compliance with company policies
- Support managers in performance management, investigations, and policy enforcement
- Coordinate employee policy acknowledgment and communication
- Support attendance management programs and daily monitoring
- Benefits administration and payroll support as needed
Labour Relations
- Represent company in union negotiations and administer collective agreements
- Investigate and resolve grievances, ensuring compliance with agreements
- Advise managers and employees on labour relations issues
Safety
- Ensure training is up to date, documented, and approved
- Interpret health and safety legislation, recommending compliance measures
- Maintain safety records and statistics; conduct incident investigations and WCB claims management
- Support new projects and equipment startup with safety planning
- Conduct employee safety orientations, inspections, and daily mini safety walks.
- Lead monthly facility safety walks with JOHSC members
- Develop and maintain H&S policies and safe work practices
- Ensure PPE use and safe work practices are followed; work safely is a condition of employment
Experience & Attributes for Success:
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources; CHRP designation is a strong asset
- Certificate/Degree or equivalent experience in Occupational Health and Safety in industrial manufacturing
- Comprehensive knowledge of HR and OHS laws and regulations in Nova Scotia
- Strong organization, planning, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated, team player with a strong work ethic
- Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
- Reliable personal transportation is required
- Willingness to work in shop-environment (at times dusty, dirty, and/or noisy); appropriate shop attire and PPE mandatory
