Risk Analyst

Overall Purpose
Reporting to the Manager, Insurance and Enterprise Risk, the Risk Analyst will be responsible for conducting risk analysis and assessments of school excursion, venues and facility rentals.
The Risk Analyst will:
collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as Legal, Teaching and Learning, Purchasing Services as well as external organizations to ensure all steps in the vetting process for Excursions and Venues is complete.
complete analysis of risk factors for all excursions and venues.
update and maintain website and content regarding approved vendor information.
Summary of Duties
Perform risk assessments of various excursion and facility venues to ensure the safety of our students, staff and volunteers.
Ensure all steps in the vetting process for excursions and venues are complete and effective risk transfers are in place, including contract and insurance.
Develop and implement excursion and facility venue application criteria.
Identify risk concerns and incorporate risk mitigation techniques to reduce the level of risk.
Collect and verify school activity applications and other related information such as insurance coverage, licenses and certificates from vendors in accordance with applicable industry practices and regulations, guidelines and standards.
Ensure information received is shared with and reviewed by all relevant departments and staff members, including, Legal, Teaching and Learning, Communications, and Purchasing.
Establish and test rationale for industry best practices, guidelines, standards, and emerging trends to ensure the TDSB excursion related information and processes are current.
Provide support to Claims Coordinator in assisting and participating with any legal proceedings, hearings, mediations and arbitrations including collaboration with legal counsel on any excursion related matters.
Review, report and conduct analysis on any excursion incidents and claims.
Distribute incident and claim summary information to various departments, committees and management in order to identify trends, assist in decision making and increase awareness of occurrences taking places in various excursion activities.
Prepare annual and quarterly reporting of usage statistics.
Assist with the review of excursions and venues administrative process/practices and make recommendations to improve as required.
Communicate any additional information requests and/or suggested changes to waivers, contracts, insurance and other required information to vendors.
Track status of each vendor and engage in follow-up as required.
Liaise with vendors and schools on vendor approvals status.
Perform due diligence to ensure applications of vendors are complete and represent services offered.
Maintain and update website information and content to ensure vendor and Board information is current and accurate.
Complete annual renewal updates of vendor information and maintain and update promotional material, including banners for special events or notices.
Collaborate with Finance in the processing and billing to vendors.
In collaboration with the Manager, Insurance and Enterprise Risk, make presentations to Learning Centres, Family of Schools, professional development sessions.
Attend and participate in external industry committees and organizations as well as internal working groups such as the Excursion Working group, and TDSB facility risk assessments, as required.
Provide support to special projects as required.
Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of programs and services.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Post-secondary degree in related field (e.g., Business Administration, Sports Management) with two years of progressively responsible risk assessment and vendor management experience in a public sector environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in insurance underwriting, sport insurance brokering or claims handling of vendor or activities related to travel, sports and leisure industry.
Knowledge of excursion venue related risk assessment and mitigation analysis.
Knowledge of principles, practices and theories of risk management processes.
Contract negotiation, review and preparation skills.
Strong analytical/interpretative and problem-solving skills.
Strong research, organizational and time management skills.
Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills including presentation skills.
Discretion, judgment and ability to deal with confidential information.
Knowledge of OPHEA and other related industry regulations, standards, guidelines and associations.
Proficient computer skills including spreadsheets, databases, website development, word-processing, project management, presentation packages and related software packages.
Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity.
Special Requirements
Occasional travel may be required.
