The Salvation Army in Canada, a long-standing Christian-based charitable organization serving communities across Canada and Bermuda for over 130 years, is seeking a dedicated Residential Care Worker to join its facility in Glencairn, Ontario. This role is essential in maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive living environment for residents, while ensuring smooth operational management of the facility. The position requires presenting a professional and welcoming image of Hope Acres to residents and the public, offering direct support, guidance, and supervision to program clients, and ensuring all administrative and safety procedures are followed diligently.
Key responsibilities include monitoring client activities, assisting with client orientation and daily tasks, ensuring adherence to facility regulations, and offering encouragement and support to residents. The Residential Care Worker will maintain accurate records, manage telephone communications, oversee visitor sign-ins, conduct drug screenings as required, and respond to any incidents or emergencies according to protocol. The role also involves clerical duties such as documentation, attendance records, and report writing, along with conducting scheduled rounds of the property and supervising fire and safety drills.
The ideal candidate will possess a degree or diploma in a human services field, demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and strong interpersonal skills, and have proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, and internet applications. Knowledge of culturally competent practices, concurrent disorders, community resources, and experience with marginalized populations is highly valued. Additional assets include First Aid/CPR certification, multilingual abilities, and familiarity with data management systems such as EMHware. Upon hiring, a current Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.
