Pulmonary Function Research Technician

 

Description:

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is seeking a Pulmonary Function Research Technician to join its Pediatric Respiratory Medicine: Inflammometry to Improve Asthma Trajectory research team. This position involves conducting diagnostic pulmonary function tests and supporting respiratory research projects under the supervision of the principal investigator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform pulmonary function tests (PFTs), including spirometry, bronchial provocation tests, exhaled FeNO, and blood tests, in accordance with research protocols.
  • Administer patient questionnaires and collect clinical parameters (height, weight, medication history).
  • Ensure quality control of diagnostic procedures, documenting patient effort, reproducibility, and test validity.
  • Transfer, analyze, and manage physiological data using specialized software, ensuring data integrity and compliance with research standards.
  • Maintain and calibrate diagnostic equipment, troubleshooting issues when needed.
  • Coordinate patient appointments and obtain informed consent for research participation.
  • Communicate urgent results to the clinical team and on-call pulmonologist.
  • Participate in research team meetings and support ongoing quality assurance initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience in pulmonary function testing and respiratory diagnostics (experience in a pediatric setting is an asset).
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Talent for problem-solving and attention to detail in data collection and reporting.
  • Proficiency in laboratory diagnostic procedures and infection prevention protocols.
